The Institut de Cancérologie de l’Ouest (ICO) decided to carry out the overhaul of three Perkins 4008 engines due to their mandatory ten-year maintenance.
This maintenance, performed every 10 years, prevents the failure of critical components that could lead to major engine breakdowns.
The main goal was to ensure the proper functioning and reliability of the generator sets, which are essential to the operation of the ICO.

It is essential to follow Perkins manufacturer recommendations to ensure the longevity and reliability of the 4000 series engines. These recommendations include:
Replacement of critical components such as cylinder heads, pistons, liners, and turbochargers.
Inspection and replacement of filters to prevent blockages and ensure proper operation of oil and air circuits.
Checking and replacing oil and water pumps to prevent engine overheating.
Testing and validation after intervention using the control panel and a load bank to ensure the engines function properly.
Failure to follow these recommendations can lead to accelerated engine deterioration, increasing corrective maintenance costs and jeopardizing the continuity of essential activities at the ICO. Not refurbishing the engines could result in risks such as:
Engine failure due to wear of critical parts.
Performance degradation caused by poor compression and/or combustion.
Oil and coolant leaks that may cause internal damage.
Excessive vibrations that could affect engine stability.

1. Planning and organization
The project involved 8 professionals, each with a key role:
Tender management and project supervision: Cédric Lacan
Logistics management and procurement: Eric Sacquin, Geo Garibaldi
Work execution: Olivier Morineau, Kévin Chevalier, Erwan Laigneau (SIRMA)
Financial management and invoicing: Cécile Gault
Logistics coordination and monitoring: Nicolas Romian
2. Technical interventions
Over the course of two months, a team of two technicians was on-site to carry out the ten-year overhaul within the allotted timeframe. The approach adopted was to work on one engine at a time, thus ensuring that two engines remained operational to guarantee the continuity of ICO’s activities.

3. Parts replaced (according to PERKINS recommendations)
Cylinder heads
Pistons
Liners
Filtration assembly
Dumper
Turbochargers
Oil and water pumps
Thermostats
Injector nozzles
4. Testing and validation
Each engine underwent rigorous testing through:
Load tests using the control panel
Final performance verification on a test bench by a certified organization

PERKINS warranty 1 year: covers replaced components including labor, travel, and parts.
SECODI warranty: covers assembly defects or adjustment corrections.
The ten-year maintenance of the three Perkins 4008 engines was successfully completed, ensuring optimal reliability of the ICO’s generators. This intervention helped prevent major breakdowns and extended the engines’ service life. Strict adherence to the manufacturer’s recommendations and efficient project management were key factors in this success.
This project is a great example of our expertise and commitment to delivering quality service. We are proud to contribute to such an important endeavor in support of healthcare and the fight against cancer.
“I wanted to thank you for your outstanding professionalism, your follow-up, and your commitment: great job. We have taken note of your contact for possible future interventions.”
